Memory Shortage Spreads to Legacy Platforms: DDR4 Prices Set to Jump Over 50% in Q3, DDR3 Also Rising

According to Wccftech, citing supply chain sources via DigiTimes, memory contract prices in Q3 2026 are rising far beyond expectations, with 8Gb DDR4 chips projected to climb more than 50%. With Samsung, SK Hynix, and Micron having shifted capacity toward DDR5 and HBM, DDR4 supply now rests mainly on Nanya and Winbond, whose output falls well short of demand — a gap that could persist for up to two years. Production line cuts have also pushed up DDR3 4Gb prices, which now exceed DDR5 on a per-Gb basis. Industry watchers expect the shortage to last through 2028, with further price hikes likely in Q4.
